Drop it in.
Open a binary or ASCII STL. Explore your model in 3D and see its geometry, dimensions, and surface checks.
Your model deserves another chance.
Find the mesh issues. Make the repair. Get back to printing.
01 FROM FILE TO FRESH START
A broken STL shouldn’t break your flow.
Go from a suspicious mesh to an inspected export,
in one focused workspace.
Open a binary or ASCII STL. Explore your model in 3D and see its geometry, dimensions, and surface checks.
Choose the right repair for your mesh. Compare the original and repaired versions before moving on.
Save a separate STL, or save and open it in Bambu Studio. Check your sliced layers, then get printing.
02 A LITTLE MESH MEDICINE
Some models need a tidy-up. Others need more.
Choose how much you want to change,
and always start from your original.
Repair topology, close open boundaries, and attempt to resolve self-intersections. A practical first step for a mesh with surface problems.
Repairs may change geometry or close intentional openings. Always review the result.
Clean up duplicate and degenerate triangles and correct winding while preserving open boundaries. Choose this when holes are part of your design.
Cleanup doesn’t close the surface. Your model may still need further repair before slicing.
Reconstruct a surface from heavily damaged geometry when other methods aren’t enough. This is a separate fallback for models that can tolerate changes.
Rebuilding can soften detail and change dimensions. Check mechanical fit and fine features carefully.
03 LOCAL BY DESIGN
On your Mac. STL Medic runs its repair engine on-device, with no uploads or cloud processing. Your original stays preserved, and every export is a separate file.
04 GOOD TO KNOW
STL Medic is a native macOS app built with SwiftUI and SceneKit. It requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. The current development build is for Apple Silicon; a public release is in preparation.
Binary and ASCII STL files, with input guardrails of 512 MB and 6 million triangles. Large models use a simplified 3D preview while inspection, cleanup, robust repair, and export work with the full geometry. Processing time and memory use depend on your model.
It can. Robust repair may close intentional openings or change surfaces. Rebuild surface creates new geometry and can soften details or change dimensions. Cleanup only offers a lighter touch and preserves open boundaries. Compare the original and repaired versions, especially for hollow models or parts that need a precise fit.
Export a binary STL to open in your preferred STL-compatible slicer. If Bambu Studio is installed, STL Medic can save the repaired STL and open it there directly. Bambu Studio is a separate application; STL Medic is not affiliated with Bambu Lab.
Mesh checks help verify surface geometry, not every aspect of printability. Thin walls, small features, supports, printer settings, and bed fit still need attention. Always inspect the sliced layers before printing. STL has no units; STL Medic displays coordinates as millimetres without scaling them.
STL Medic is currently in development. The public Mac download is being prepared and isn’t available on this site yet. This page introduces the app and includes an illustrative preview; the actual repair engine runs in the Mac app.
